The defending Academy of Country Music Awards’ Entertainer of the Year threw a makeshift concert Monday on Instagram. Broadcasting live from his Nashville warehouse, Urban performed — with social distance — a half-hour jam with collaborator Jeff Linsenmaier (or, as Urban described it, his “InstaBand”).
As one of virtually all touring artists grounded due to spreading of the novel coronavirus, Urban said he thought “it would nice to play” some tunes, despite his Houston Rodeo show this week being canceled.
Urban was set to host the ACM Awards next month in Las Vegas, but the annual show has been postponed to a future date to-be-determined.
“There is no over there anymore,” Urban said. “There’s just here. We are all here.”
“I’m trying just to bring a little relief in any way I can right now. Playing some music. If you guys are at home watching, singing along, that’s what this is about.”
