Departing LSU head coach Ed Orgeron had one last goodbye to say on Saturday night after coaching his final game for the Tigers. That goodbye went to the media who covered his tenure and his players over the last six years.
“Six years, y’all have been fair to me, I love y’all,” Orgeron said in his post-game press conference.
“It’s been good, man. I look forward to meeting with you guys. Every one of you guys has been fair to me and I’m always going to be around. If you come to Destin, I’ve got a little suntan lotion for you boys.”
Ed Orgeron finished his final press conference with an emphatic “Geaux Tigers!”
LSU (6-6) sent coach Ed Orgeron out a winner, beating No. 15 Texas A&M 27-24 on a touchdown pass with 20 seconds left.
Orgeron off to Destin
After clinching bowl eligibility in the final minute of Saturday’s game versus No. 15 Texas A&M, many wondered who will lead the Tigers in that bowl game. Well, it won’t be Ed Orgeron.
Orgeron told reporters after the game that he’s packing his bags and heading to Destin, Florida. He said he doesn’t want to be around when the new coach comes in, which could be imminent.
“This is my last game with the Tigers,” Orgeron said. “Me and the administration have mutually decided that I will not coach the bowl game. I told the guys, I’m not going to sit here and coach when there’s another guy coming in next week or the week after that. I’m not going to do that, this is my team and as soon as they got a new head coach I was going to go.”
Coach O led his squad to wins over ULM and No. 15 Texas A&M to end his tenure on a higher note than it was when he got the ax.
“Whoever the new coach is, I wish him all the luck in the world,” Orgeron said. “I’ll always be an LSU fan.”
As for who will coach the squad in their yet-to-be-determined bowl game, that honor goes to offensive line coach Brad Davis.
Davis took over the offensive line this season after revamping the Arkansas offensive line with Sam Pittman. Prior to Arkansas, the Baton Rouge native coached two seasons at Missouri and one season at Florida.
